Crochet
Crochet is one of my great loves. I started with simple granny squares and quickly moved on to wearable pieces and objects. I make from existing patterns and create my own. I have experimented with recycling plastic bags into yarn and crocheting objects including kokeshi dolls, vessels and wall pieces. I crocheted a series of vessels (still lifes) which allowed me to experiment with forms and express traditionally ceramic or glass objects in a soft way with yarn. When I started to make ceramics, I looked for ways to combine the 2. I crocheted items, soaked them in slip and fired them so that the original crocheted piece was left in ceramic. I crocheted vessels and made them into moulds for slip-casting. I crocheted lids and cosies to go with my ceramic pieces and crocheted fine yarn into zinc chain for jewellery pieces.
